Basin Planning for the Watersheds Drained by the West, Williams and Saxtons Rivers

Pikes Falls - Jamaica, Vermont West River - South Londonderry, Vermont

Water quality management planning for the West River watershed began several years ago with a series of public meetings hosted by the Windham Regional Commission and the Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District. Those meetings led to the development of a document known as the West River Alliance Action Plan.

The Basin 11 planning process was spearheaded by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and the Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District.  Basin 11 includes the watershed areas drained by the West, Williams and Saxtons Rivers. The planning process is a public-private collaboration to restore and protect waters found within the basin. The resulting basin plan (see link below) will largely support voluntary remedies. Active public participation in developing the basin plan will be essential to formulate strategies that will effectively improve and protect water quality while reflecting the needs and priorities of Vermonters who live in the basin.

The Agency of Natural Resources, municipalities, watershed organizations and many others will use the resulting plan as guidance for their own work and to support the citizens of the basin who developed the plan. For more information about Basin 11 and the basin planning process contact:
