Instructions for Sending in a Plant Sample for Identification
If you have found a new population of a nonnative aquatic plant of concern, a sample should be collected so the Department of Environmental Conservation, Water Quality Division can confirm its identification.
- Obtain the entire plant (if possible), including stems, leaves, and flowers, if they are present.
- Wrap the sample in a wet paper towel as aquatic plants tend to dry out rather quickly.
- Place the sample in a plastic baggie.
- Make note of the date, collection location and some details about the site where the aquatic plant was found.
- Mail the sample as soon as possible to the Department at the address below:
